First Connecting Road Completed, Construction of the Second to Begin Soon

As part of the municipal infrastructure development for the expansion of the Trnovlje – South Economic-Business Zone, the first major on-site milestone has been achieved. The construction of the first connecting road, Road E, with a length of 180 meters, has been completed. Additionally, a contract has been signed with the contractor for the construction of Road A, which will be 270 meters long. Both roads will improve traffic flow and accessibility within the zone and serve as a foundation for further developments, including the implementation of green infrastructure.

The contract value for Road E, which connects Kulturniška Street to the public road Gaji, amounted to slightly over €346,000. The construction work, which began in mid-June, was carried out by Sial GP and included road infrastructure with a sidewalk, stormwater drainage system, water supply system renewal, and more.

Road A, after completion and connection to the public road Gaji, will link the area from the roundabout at Bežigrajska Road in the south to Trnoveljska Road in the north, providing quick access to the Celje – East highway interchange.

The contract value for Road A is over €1 million, and the contractor for the project will be Remont NG. The construction of this 270-meter-long road will also include:

  • Dedicated lanes for cyclists and pedestrians,
  • Sanitary and stormwater drainage systems,
  • Water and gas pipelines,
  • Telecommunication lines,
  • Street lighting,
  • Installation of electric vehicle charging stations.
The work is scheduled to begin next week, and completion is required within nine months.

The EPC Trnovlje – South project is aimed at the development and expansion of the existing economic-business zone, utilizing vacant, usable land to:
  • Create conditions for further specialization of the EPC,
  • Enhance the competitiveness of businesses within the zone,
  • Establish a high-value business ecosystem.
  • The total development and expansion area will cover 6.26 hectares.

The Municipality of Celje successfully applied for funding under the former Ministry of Economic Development and Technology’s (now the Ministry of Economy, Tourism, and Sport) call for "Support for Innovative Ecosystems of Economic-Business Infrastructure."

As a result, the project is eligible to receive up to €1.3 million in non-repayable EU funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) mechanism. The total project value exceeds €2.3 million.
